What is “Beyond The Lyrics”?
We all love visiting museums to discover their masterpieces. However, when we are explained what a certain painting means, its possible interpretations, the details behind it, the historical context in which it fits ... we enjoy it much more as we can stare at it in all its splendor. With that same purpose in mind our book series “Beyond the Lyrics” was conceived. A book collection that aims to be a guide to discovering the most relevant songs in the catalogue of our most outstanding contemporary artists.
We want to take you on a journey through those songs in order to find out what lies beyond their lyrics so that "Beyond life you will find your song", as Daft Punk stated in their song "Beyond."
Our first commemorated artist: PRINCE
Prince being the first artist we chose to honor is no coincidence. This project stems from our wish to celebrate his life and legacy, since he is one of the most iconic figures of our generation. Prince is the «ultimate artist», a man with exceptional skills for composing music, writing lyrics, recording, arranging and producing his own catalog by himself, a flawless musical director, outstanding vocalist and dancer; and first-class multi-instrumentalist capable of playing up to 27 instruments. Such cultural wealth cannot go unnoticed among those of us who love music.
All around the world Prince’s legacy has been – and keeps being- widely celebrated. In our country, it is necessary to come up with products that help spread his message and remind our generation of his vast body of work, while introducing it to the new ones. Considering that the genius of Minneapolis is no longer physically among us, we all are Prince now. And it is our duty to keep his purple flame alive.
How we are going to go about it
“Beyond The Lyrics: Prince” is a journey accross the life and music of Prince. With the spotlight on the lyrics of his songs, we will take a colorful stroll through his personal cosmos, artistic achievements, beliefs, fetishes and convictions. This is a book that will undoubtedly be cherished for the quality it offers the readers. Each song will be accompanied by a graphic representation and a technical analysis plus a handful of fun facts. Each visual artist who will be collaborating in the book, is going to recreate a song and depict it by means of using their own unique and personal language. Painting, illustration, photography, ceramics, graffiti and collage will be some of the techniques employed to do so.
The book
Since we are talking about music, we want the book to be a music icon in its own right. We have conceived the book to look like a 12-inch vinyl, its size being 31cm x 31cm. It will feature the lay out that accompanies all vinyl discs.
Production
The book will be the size of a traditional vinyl LP, 31 x 31 cm. It will be printed in full color with high quality finish and in hardcover. The book will be presented shrink-wrapped like a vinyl and topped by a Prince "heart" sticker.
Edition
As this is an exclusive edition, 500 copies, numbered 1 to 500, will be printed.

Use of funds
The funds raised will be invested in the editing, issuing, marketing and distribution of the book. It will also provide us with the means to reward our visual artists with some symbolic pay. Neither the publisher nor the text writer will be rewarded financially, as it is an endeavor of love.
Schedule
Our crowdfunding kicks off on January 15th. It will be running until March 31th. We hope to release this tribute book on a highly relevant date on the purple calendar: June 7th, Prince’s birthday.
About the authors
Pilar de Giles López is the brains behind the project. She is the creative director of one of the most awarded and prestigious advertising agencies in our country, Pilar envisaged this tribute for one of her musical idols and recruited all this army of visual artists, writer and publishers to make it come true.
The texts of the book will be printed in both Spanish and English, and written by Marcelo Chaparro Santana (a.k.a Marcellovable) philologist, translator and a well-known purple fan in Spain for having founded “The Purple Message Guardians”, responsible for the translation of the entire purple catalog into Spanish.
